God works behind the curtain of our lives in order to fulfill his purposes and the vision he’s given you to fulfill. Unbeknownst to Joseph and Mary, God was establishing the vision in and through them by having them travel to Bethlehem.
There was no mistaking where God was leading. Note the attention to details in verse 4. “Also Joseph went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David.”
Remember that the vision is always bigger than just you or what you initially see. God gives vision and he beautifully desires to play a huge part in the fulfillment. The vision had been something God had been working on for several years. Joseph and Mary were simply instruments of the vision.
Leadership requires vision. Yet neither Mary nor Joseph fully understood the extent of what God was up too. They knew they were part of something big but the full impact wouldn’t be felt for years later.
The vision given to the leader should always outlive the leader. Creating a vision simply for our time or to bring credit to ourselves is both vain and selfish. What God gives us to birth is meant to be shared and ultimately experienced by others.
