Stop. Look around. Chances are you see people. As I sit here, sipping my coffee, I see lot’s of people.
We work with people, live next to people, ride on planes, buses, and in cars with people. We shop with people, we eat in restaurants, enjoy a coffee with people and attend concerts and movies with people. We read about people, write about people (I’m doing that now), talk about people, and think about people.
In all honesty, I love people…as long as they love me. The challenge is loving people, ALL people, period.
What do you think about people? I mean really think? Here’s what God thinks.
1 John 4.20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. (ESV)
God measures our love for him by our love for people. As I look around I see,
…people who are hurting, hungry, homeless and hopeless.
…people who have lost loved ones or who are facing life-threatening decisions.
…people who are lonely or lost.
…people who are suffering, jobless, or battling addictions.
Mark 12.30-31 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (ESV)
Loving God = loving people.
Our relationship with people is a reflection of our love for God.
As you walk through life, take time to love people. In doing so you are loving God.
How do you show your love for people?
